FAQ
Should I
be charged labor sales tax on my project?
As of October 1, 2006, the state of
New Jersey requires that all home improvement contractors charge sales
tax on labor for non-exempt home improvements. Typically these
non-exempt improvements include repairs and any work that only sustains
the value of a property and does not raise the resale value. Exempt
capital improvements are most improvements that will lead to an
increased resale value. For more information on this topic, see 'More
on sales tax' on the
downloads page or visit the NJ
department of taxation website.
